Where is Toshiba Portégé X30 M2 2280 SSD hidden?
Looking to upgrade or change SSD on Toshiba Portégé X30-D-102 but can find, read this post to make you life easier and take the guessing out.
Bought recently Toshiba Portégé X30-D-102, laptop was old office laptop and since most ex business laptops come without hard drives(data protection..) i had to buy one.
These Toshiba laptops take M.2 2280 SSD's, i bought mine from Amazon.. see it here: Sabrent 256GB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280
Normally changing or upgrading SSD on these type of laptops is easy, just remove back cover and there you go place your SSD into the slot and all done.
This time was bit different since turns out that Toshiba had to place SSD other side of the motherboard, that means that when you take off back cover then you will not see slot for SSD.
I was too lazy a to remove motherboard and see is there a slot on the other side and did bit of searching on the net but for my surprise i could not find much info about hard drive location, one of the top reviewing sites even suggested that SSD is soldered to the motherboard because they could not see it...:) shame on them:), even official spec says that there's a M.2 2280 SSD.
My only option was to remove motherboard and see is there a slot on the other side and there it was, should have done this first because it only took me 5 extra minutes.
Workflow to replace Toshiba Portégé X30-D SSD:
- Remove screws on the back of the laptop and lift base cover
- Disconnect ribbons to the touchpad and battery etc.
- Unscrew 2 screws holding motherboard in place.
- Turn motherboard around and find M.2 2280 SSD slot
